Terms of Service
Last updated: March 4, 2026
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using DuckDecode ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.
2. Description of Service
DuckDecode provides Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) decoding services using publicly available data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Product Information Catalog (vPIC). The Service includes web-based VIN lookups, bulk decoding, and API access depending on your subscription plan.
3. Data Accuracy Disclaimer
Vehicle data is sourced from the NHTSA vPIC database and is provided "as-is" without warranty of any kind. While NHTSA data is approximately 99% accurate for vehicles manufactured from 1995 onward, accuracy is lower for older vehicles (approximately 60-65% for 1980-1994 models). DuckDecode does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any decoded vehicle information.
DuckDecode is not a vehicle history report service. We decode factory specifications from the VIN. For accident history, title status, odometer verification, and other historical data, consult a dedicated vehicle history report provider.
4. Free and Paid Plans
The free tier provides up to 5 VIN lookups per day. Paid plans (Pro and API) offer additional features as described on our Pricing page. Paid subscriptions are billed monthly and can be cancelled at any time. Refunds are not provided for partial billing periods.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to circumvent rate limits or access controls
- Resell API access without written authorization
- Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to access the Service beyond the provided API
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
6. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, DuckDecode and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to decisions made based on decoded vehicle data.
7. NHTSA Attribution
Vehicle specification data is provided by the NHTSA vPIC database. DuckDecode is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by NHTSA or the U.S. Department of Transportation.
8. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
